Spring is here - Flowers and Hope

Some years ago I visited the Coventry Cathedral. I had visited the place as a child and wanted my family to see it. I remember my Dad explaining about this special place. Coventry used to be a town that produced arms during World War II and was bombed as a consequence. The cathedral was ruined but the townsfolk decided to rebuild it, hoping that it would be a sign of Peace and Reconciliation for the World.

It is truly a beautiful and a magical place and you can read about it here and here.

Looking at this stained glass panel today makes me think about peyote stitch.

Anyways, on the day of the visit I was feeling a little sad and fretful. And then I found this little pagemarker inside the cathedral that read

"Don't worry, don't worry, and don't forget to smell the flowers"

This phrase stayed with me for a long time. And I try to put flowers in all the jewels and dolls that I create.

Therefore I was surprised and pleased to find out about Spes, the roman Goddess of Hope and Flowers, thanks to artist Brea Moser VanPutten of Enter the Flame Studio. This necklace is featured in the April 2007 issue of Bead &Button magazine. Isn't it gorgeous ?
